Lake Alfred to Unveil Revolutionary War Monument, Screen ‘Hamilton’ on July 3rd Celebration

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. — The city of Lake Alfred will mark America’s 250th anniversary with a monument dedication and an evening of history, trivia and film on July 3, beginning at City Hall and moving to Frank C. Gardner Park.

The city received a $20,000 Florida Department of State America 250 Grant to fund construction and installation of a Revolutionary War monument at Gardner Park, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17/92 and Rochelle Avenue.

The evening begins at 5 p.m. with refreshments at City Hall. At 5:30 p.m., Lake Alfred students will read essays submitted through the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dara Hatten, DAR America 250 State Chairman, will deliver the keynote address at 5:45 p.m., followed by a dedication ceremony at 6:20 p.m.

At 6:45 p.m., the event moves to Gardner Park for the monument unveiling. American History Trivia runs from 7 to 7:45 p.m., and a screening of the Broadway musical film “Hamilton” closes out the evening at 7:50 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public.
