BREAKING NEWS: If you felt the ground shake this afternoon, you are not alone. Earthquake hits off the northwest Coast of Cuba
A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Mantua, Cuba, this afternoon, and Polk County residents are among thousands across Central Florida reporting tremors and a rolling wave sensation.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake, originally measured at 6.4 before being revised to 6.1. The epicenter was approximately 104 kilometers west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba.
Shaking was reported as far north as Jacksonville, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS has confirmed there is no tsunami threat.
No damage or injuries in Polk County have been reported at this time.
