Winter Haven – US 17 SB at Cypress Gardens Blvd Closes on Wednesday for Two Weeks
The southbound inside lane of U.S. 17 near Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven closes Wednesday, Sept. 9. The Florida Department of Transportation says the closure will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for approximately two weeks.
The closure covers U.S. 17 both north and south of the State Road 540 intersection. The inside westbound left turn lane from Cypress Gardens Boulevard onto southbound U.S. 17 will also be closed.
Crews are installing a new drainage structure and constructing turn lanes for the entrance to the Target currently under construction at that intersection. The work is part of a permit project that also includes new driveways at the Target development, a traffic signal at the Chain of Lakes Complex and Target entrance, and a second left turn lane from southbound U.S. 17 onto Snively Avenue, making it a double left turn.
Drivers passing through the area can use Havendale Boulevard or First Street South as alternate routes. Those traveling to businesses at the intersection should allow additional time.
FDOT advises drivers to use caution, be prepared to merge and expect delays in the area. Crews will be working at all hours rather than overnight only. Speeding fines are doubled in Florida work zones when workers are present.
