State Farm Owes $5B in Dividend payments: One Polk County Resident Says she Will receive almost $500

A Polk County resident says she assumed her share of State Farm’s $5 billion dividend would come to less than $5 is scheduled to receive $467. She told The Citrus Tea News that the notice she received looked like a scam, but she went to the State Farm website and confirmed the email was legitimate.

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company is returning roughly $5 billion to qualifying auto customers, the largest dividend in its history, covering more than 49 million insured vehicles. The company announced the payout in February, citing its financial strength and a stronger-than-expected underwriting performance in 2025.

The notices themselves are what look suspicious. They arrive from an unfamiliar domain, send recipients to a portal that is not State Farm’s own website, and offer payment through Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle. The photos below are images from one of two emails the Polk County resident received.

How much will participants Receive?

Each payment is 4% to 10% of the premium paid for each qualifying policy in 2025, with the percentage set by the state where the policy is assigned. Anyone who held a private passenger auto policy from State Farm Mutual at any point during 2025 qualifies if the payment reaches $10, and current coverage is not required. New Jersey and state assigned risk policies are excluded. Customers with more than one eligible policy get a separate payment, and a separate login, for each.

Why Florida Payments Run High

The national average for auto insurance is about $100 per vehicle. State Farm has not released a state-by-state breakdown, but Florida’s average is the highest in the country at roughly $173. Dividend customers receive are a percentage of the premiums they paid. Florida drivers carry some of the steepest auto premiums in the nation, averaging roughly $2,700 a year for full coverage.

Don’t be Fooled by SPAM look-a-likes

The payment selection email comes from [email protected], which State Farm lists as a valid sender. It carries what the company calls “unique ID/PIN information,” used to log into the dividend payment portal at sfdividend.com, run by the administrator Verita. This program has no claim number. The dividend also cannot be handled through the State Farm mobile app or the company’s main website, so its absence there is not evidence of fraud.

State Farm says it will never charge a fee to release a dividend, ask for an email, banking information or passwords, and they will never call a customer to request personal information.

The dividend contact center’s direct number is 1-888-808-9532.

Getting Paid

Recipients may choose an online payment through PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. They can also choose to have the dividend check mailed. Once you submit the request, you can’t change how you receive funds. The website states that electronic payments take two to four weeks, and checks take 30 to 60 days. Customers without an email address on file automatically receive mailed checks. Funds are directed to the primary named on the insurance account as of June 1, 2026.

Anyone who doesn’t respond to the email won’t lose out. Checks will automatically be mailed out to them.

Notifications began in late summer and are going out in waves by state over several months. State Farm has not published a detailed time frame.
