Auburndale Teen Serves Up Red, White and Blue on America’s 250th Birthday
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Quinn Beckham has been saving money since she was 7 years old. She did not know exactly what she was saving for back then, just that someday she wanted to build something of her own.
Now 14, the Auburndale teen has her answer. Beckham launched Frost Bites Ice LLC earlier this year, a mobile Italian ice business she built from scratch and funded entirely by years of odd jobs and determination.
“I’ve always really loved Italian ice, and I’ve always known I wanted to be an entrepreneur,” Beckham said.
She got the idea for Italian ice around age 11 or 12, but the saving had already been going on for years. Dog sitting. Babysitting. Odd jobs. Whatever work she could find, she took it and put the money away. Eventually she had enough to buy her own trailer and file her LLC for Frost Bites Italian Ice.
Quinn Beckham runs about two events a week, bringing her trailer to markets, summer camps, and business events across the area. On July 4th, she set up at the 1st Saturday Downtown Auburndale Market at Downtown Auburndale City Park and came ready for the occasion. Her special was the Firecracker, a layered Italian ice combining cherry, lemon and blueberry, served in red, white and blue in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. . The Italian ice was smooth and cold, perfect for one of the hottest Saturdays of the year.
Polk County has no shortage of small businesses, but is has few started by 14-year-olds who saved their way there one dog-sitting job at a time.
