Polk State Soccer’s Kaylin Allen and Sofia Zapata Earn All-FCSAA Honors Before Thursday Semifinal
Polk State College soccer players Kaylin Allen and Sofia Zapata were named to the All-FCSAA Team on Wednesday, one day before the fourth-seeded Eagles face top-seeded Miami Dade College in the FCSAA Division I Soccer Championship semifinals in Melbourne. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. Thursday at Orlando Health Stadium, at the Eastern Florida State College Melbourne campus.
Allen, a sophomore midfielder and team captain from Palmetto, ranks fourth in the Florida College System Activities Association with five assists, according to Polk State Athletics. She also has two goals and nine points, third on the team. Zapata, a freshman goalkeeper from Orlando, leads the state with 55 saves and ranks second with a .764 save percentage. They are two of 11 players on the statewide team, according to Eastern Florida State College Athletics.
Both helped the Eagles earn their first national ranking in four years, the college said. Polk State was No. 20 in the NJCAA Division I poll released Oct. 13. Allen opened the season with three assists in an 8-0 win over Central Georgia Technical College on Aug. 22. Zapata was named FCSAA Player of the Week, according to the college, after a 1-1 draw with Daytona State College, the two-time reigning NJCAA national champion, on Sept. 23. A week later, she made four saves in a 2-1 win at Eastern Florida State College, the Eagles’ first true road victory in Melbourne since 2010, according to the game recap.
Head Coach Dee Shivraman called the pair “two truly elite players” and credited them with bringing energy and leadership to the program all season. Director of Athletics Randy Lee congratulated both and said he hopes the team can bring a ninth state title back to Polk State. The program’s all-time honors list shows eight Region 8 championships, the most recent in 2022. President Anastasios Kamoutsas said the honors reflect the talent, discipline, and competitive spirit of the college’s student-athletes.
The Eagles (5-5-2, 1-4-1 FCSAA) lost both regular-season meetings with Miami Dade, 5-0 on Sept. 11 and 5-1 on Oct. 19 in Lakeland. Miami Dade (10-2-1) went 5-0-1 in FCSAA play. The other semifinal pairs No. 2 seed Daytona State College with Eastern Florida State College at 5 p.m. Thursday. Polk State’s past two seasons ended in the semifinals with losses to Daytona State, 2-0 in 2024 and 5-0 in 2025.
